Caring for granite and marble worktops

  • Clean your granite and marble worktops with a damp cloth. Be sure to dry off any water afterwards
  • You can maintain the surface shine of your worktops with any liquid all-purpose cleaner; treat it like glass
  • Never use abrasive detergents or scouring pads
  • Avoid spilling substances such as oven cleaners, juices, wine, oils, acids such as vinegar or lemon juice, paint removers, nail varnish remover etc. Although your worktops are sealed, substances like this can damage the sealer and create marks. If these substances are spilled, remove the liquid as soon as possible to reduce the chance of it seeping through the seal
  • Always use a chopping board; do not chop food directly on your worktop. The stone finish may become scratched and it will blunt your knife
  • Use a trivet for hot pans. While putting a hot pan directly onto your granite worktop once or twice won’t cause a problem, using the same spot every time could eventually lead to discolouration. A trivet or mat can also help to prevent scratching from pots and pans.
  • If there is hardened food residue or limescale on your worktop, use fine steel wool #000 grade to remove it.
